Grow your thinning edges back in 40 days

IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND
These tips work the best for the following hair loss situations
a. Your edges do not have bald spots. Areas void of hair.
b. Your hair thinning, is less than a year old.
c. Currently you are not wearing wigs, weaves or applying any type of tension to your edges.

BALD EDGES WHICH HAVE BEEN THAT WAY A LONG TIME
If you have clean bald spots on your edges, I recommend that you make an appointment with the dermatologist. Ask the doctor for a scalp biopsy to see what is going on under the scalp. You stand a greater chance at recovering your hair when you seek treatment early. The absolute worst thing you can do for your hair loss is continue to put stress on the area by wearing extensions or using harsh chemicals. Go ahead and make that doctor's appointment. Write down everything you can think of to tell the doctor about your hair loss.

Examining bald areas for yourself, in the meantime

Get a friend to look at your scalp up close with a magnifying glass. Have them examine any bald areas. Even if no hair is there, if the follicle is still alive they should see the small hole. Ask them do they see any holes. Seeing holes is a good sign that the follicle is still alive. This gives you a great chance at recovering hairs in those holes. If no holes are present the hair follicle is most likely closed. Sometimes you will see a follicle that is partially closed. If you see some which appear to be closed make a dermatologist appointment asap. You need to know what is going on under the scalp. Medical tests are the only way to know that.

4 SIMPLE SOLUTIONS FOR RECENT HAIR LOSS

If you have recently received the hair loss, it will be fairly easy to recover that hair. When I say recently, I mean within the last 3 months. The older the hair loss the harder the recovery.

  1.  Remove all stress from the edges. Do not even use a brush or toothbrush on your edges.
  2.  Create a stimulating oil blend and massage that oil onto your scalp for ten minutes daily.
  3.  Cleanse scalp weekly and condition it daily.
  4.  Take a hair growth supplement or a multi vitamin.

Doing those simple things, you will see your edges recover in 40 days. The main change is to immediately stop anything which appears to  take your edges out.  Your hair will recover in no time.

Many years ago, my edges started thinning out. I was wearing a curly hair sew in, with a leave out. Daily I was brushing my edges in attempts to blend my leave out with the curly weave. After months of this treatment, my edges began to thin a lot.  I didn't notice it until I saw my edges on a picture.

I immediately stopped using a brush and did the steps above. My edges recovered fully within a month.

Other tips to recover your edges

1. Do not use gel.
2. No type of brushing of your edges,
3. Moisturize them daily and smooth back using your palms only.
4. At bedtime, braid or cornrow your edges going in a downward motion. Simply one braid on each side of your head, from top to the ear.
5. Cover hair with  a satin scarf or at night
6. When you deep condition add extra product to your edges.
7. Invest in a hair growth oil. I recommend the liquid gold sulfur oil

PH balancers for moisture retention and better hair growth

Keeping the hair in the proper pH balance is an essential part to maintaining healthy hair. Hair is acidic with an average pH around 3.7. Most shampoos have a pH between 7 and 9. The wash process should always consist of cleansing and conditioning. Conditioners help to restore the pH to the hair, after cleansing.

But conditioning is not enough!

On top of  conditioning, the Coily Queens Regimen uses pH balancers.  Each wash process is completed by applying a pH balancer to the hair. The program has two pH balancers: ACV rinses and Aloe Vera spritz.

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

After rinsing DC from hair, pour all over hair, leave on for 3 minutes, and rinse with cool water.

Pure Aloe Vera Leaf

ALOE SPRITZER: Apply to hair after you rinse out your deep conditioner. Leave on hair, then add your leave in conditioner or moisturizer

Both of these are done at the end of your shampoo process. Both have great benefits. I recommend using them both. Simply alternating each wash routine. Both of these treatments are cheap. But ACV is the cheapest of the duo.

ACV Rinse
Is a rinse out treatment
Use once a week only
Helps the hair cuticle to lay flatter, so hair holds moisture longer and has more shine.
Helps growth by removing bacteria and fungus.
Be sure the pH is a 4.

Aloe Vera Spritzer
A leave in treatment
Use daily if desired
Helps hair cuticle to lay flatter, thus creating smooth twist outs, shine and hair holds moisture longer.

The Coily Queen shampoo method for hydration

The Coily Queens Regimen is a lifestyle program for growing coily hair long and healthy. The regimen has a specific way of cleansing and conditioning. This is to ensure that your hair receives proper hydration.

Shampoo day is more than just cleansing the hair of germs. It is also the way to hydrate the hair. Properly hydrated hair creates the best twist outs, braid outs and wet sets. Hydrated hair also helps you retain the most length. If your hair root is alive, this regimen will reap you mid back length, waist length and up to hip length hair.

This process should be used in combination with the rest of the Coily Queens program, in order to achieve long, healthy hair.

Products needed
A non sulphate shampoo
Organic apple cider vinegar
Deep conditioner
A natural leave in conditioner

Step one: Allow medium temp water to run over hair for 1 to 3 minutes. With hair under water massage your scalp, then smooth fingers over your hair in a downward motion. Saturate hair well.

Shampoo hair is big twists, if  you have excessive tangles

Step two:
Apply shampoo to hair and cleanse. Cleanse hair in sections. Hold the ends of each section as you massage the scalp with the other hand. Rinse lather again and rinse.

IF YOU NEED TO DO ANY TYPE OF TREATMENT INSERT IT AT THIS STEP

Step three: Deep condition or condition hair. Sit under a heating cap, hooded dryer or steamer. Rinse out conditioner with cool or room temp water. (Do not towel dry or remove water)
Step four:  Fully saturate hair with all of ACV rinse.  Let it sit on hair for 3 minutes, then rinse with cool water. (Do not towel dry or remove water)

Better results from protein treatments

Protein treatments are temporary treatments which adhere micro particles of protein to your hair. These protein particles make the hair stronger and less likely to break. With less breakage you are able to keep your hair strands longer, thus reaching your length goals easier. Protein also helps to make the hair appear fuller. Protein benefits are temporary, therefore they must be repeated on a weekly or monthly basis, depending upon the type of protein treatment you use.

PROTEIN SENSITIVE?

Some people experience dry hair after doing a protein treatment, thus leading them to believe they are protein sensitive. The problem comes from not adding enough moisture back to the hair, after the protein treatment. Because the protein is sitting on top of the hair, you will need to double your moisture regimen, post protein treatment.

For most people simply doing a moisturizing deep conditioner, after a protein treatment will suffice. However for a small number of people they will need to double up the moisture, the entire week after doing a protein treatment.

It is normal for hair to feel different, after a protein treatment. Do not expect your hair to feel like a moisturizing deep conditioner. Your strands might feel thicker, that is the protein on them. Do not judge the treatment, based off how your hair feels. Judge it based off whether it has reduced your breakage or whether the hair feels stronger or not. It can take several treatments to stop the breakage.

Protein treatments treat mild to moderate breakage. This article is addressing the issue of dry hair after doing a protein treatment. For more information about protein and answers to other protein questions see:  The guide to protein treatments.

SOLUTIONS FOR THOSE WHOSE HAIR BECOMES VERY DRY AFTER A PROTEIN TREATMENT

This after treatment, regimen is for after you use a hard protein treatment. such as aphogee 2 step treatment. A hard  protein treatment gives you the strongest reinforcement. A hard protein treatment will dry hard on the hair during application.

1. Follow up your protein treatment with a deep moisturizing conditioner.
2. Baggy your hair for 3 nights straight after your protein treatment. (this meansapply moisturizer and cover with a plastic conditioning cap overnight)
3. Use a leave in conditioner that is protein free or that contains a small amount of protein. Your hair already has some good protein on it, no need to keep adding more. Be mindful of protein in the top five ingredients of your leave in conditioner.
4. Deep condition hair each week using a protein free or low protein conditioner. Since your hair already has protein on it from your hard protein treatment, there is no need to add more protein when you deep condition. So deep condition with protein free or low protein conditioner.
List of protein free conditioners HERE

Following these steps will enable you to reap the amazing benefits of  protein treatments. You will see your hair retain more length. You will reach your length goals faster and enjoy fuller styling hair.

Best days to trim for hair growth (Aug)

My New Moon trim dates for this August are:

23-27

30th

These are the best days to trim for hair growth increase.

We know hair grows automatically, if the root is alive. However you can use the power of the moon to enhance the amount of growth you receive in return.

As the moon changes phases it holds different energy levels. The same as we use the earth for knowing when to plant and when to pluck. We can also use it for when to trim our hair.

For more details on how I select the best dates each month, go HERE.

Need to do a hair treatment? A treatment is normally something you do outside of your regular grooming routine. Doing your treatment on the right days, can increase the effectiveness and your results from the treatment.

Blessed journey to you!

Powerful oil blend for faster hair growth

Oils derived from plants and nuts, can greatly increase your hair growth as well as strengthen your strands. The key is learning to use the right combination of oils to nourish your hairs needs. The Omega 369 oil is created from 3 very powerful nuts.

This is a perfect oil blend for the Summer or those who live in hot climates. When you purchase each oil be sure they are unrefined and cold pressed. This is the only way to reap the amazing benefits of this blend of  fatty acids.

With so many wonderful oils, how do I know this oil blend is the one for me?
Should I invest in this oil?

Does it appear that your hair has stopped growing?
Do you have issues with inflammation?
Auto immune disease?
Are you taking medications which seems to dry your hair out?
Does your hair stay hard no matter what you do?
Are you currently dealing with hair loss and do not know the root cause?

If two or more above statements are true for you, this oil blend could turn your slow hair growth or dry hair around.

Remember to consider any medications you take, when using a new product.

This easy recipe makes 3 ounces. Massage 1 to 2 tbsp of this oil onto your scalp, then smooth over your hair strands. Use daily during the Summer months then every other day during the rest of the seasons. Inflamed hair roots are a top cause of slow growth and hair loss. This potent blend of omega fatty acids reduces inflammation on the scalp.

Teas for hair strengthening and growth

Tea infusions are excellent for strengthening the hair roots, stimulating hair follicles and providing moisture. Create tea infusions from good quality tea leaves, filtered water and good quality essential oils. The longer you steep your tea the stronger the infusion. Choose the tea leaves which address your current hair needs.

Rosemary-Bay leaf hair tea benefits
  • Adds strength to the hair base, thus reducing breakage
  • Increases hair growth by stimulating better blood flow to the scalp
  • Use after braiding to reduce the amount of sheds hairs when you remove braids.

How to use as a tea rinse

After cleansing and conditioning, pour this hair tea over your hair. Do not rinse out, nor towel dry. With hair still soaking wet apply your leave in conditioner and other style products. This rinse can be used once a week if desired.

How to use as a braid spray

Gently massage scalp for 5 to 10 minutes. Then spray entire scalp, enough to make it damp. Lightly spray over the length of each braid. Do not soak the hair, unless it is shampoo day.   Repeat these steps every other day, which equals 3 times a week.

Protective Styling tips

Detangle on "damp" hair
When the hair is wet it is filled with water. Wet hair is weak hair and more prone to breakage. Dry hair does not have as much elasticity. Therefore detangling on damp hair is the best option, to preventing breakage. Remove tangles before submerging under water.

Finger style
This is the number one tip to retaining coily hair. Stop raking combs and brushes through your hair. Your fingers are perfect for detangling and styling your curly hair. Yes it takes a little longer, but finger comb for 60 days and watch the difference in your length.

Protein treat your hair
Protein treatment can help you retain lots of length. A good protein treatment will fortify your hair strands and keep them from breaking so easily. Having a good protein treatment plan is essential to growing your hair to long lengths. Especially if you have fine strands, medium strands or any type of hair damage.

My vitamin plan for hair growth

If you are on a hair length journey and you desire to grow your hair as long as possible. It would greatly benefit you to have a vitamin regimen plan. Yes a plan, because success is more likely when you have a plan.

This is the vitamin plan I follow:
I rotate between 3 hair vitamins. Mineral rich liquid vitamin, Now multi liquid vitamins and the liquid gold beauty vites. I have taken this vitamin rotation for several years and it produces good results. I prefer liquid vitamins because they absorb better into your system. However liquid supplements cost way more than capsules, so I mix it up.

MONTH ONE

Beauty Vites to increase growth

MSM to extend my hair growth phase

Flax seed oil to create healthier sebum production

MONTH TWO
Check out what Mineral Rich did for my hair growth HERE.
Mineral Rich for energy and hair growth
3mcg MSM to keep hair in growth phase longer
Fish oil heart health and hair growth

MONTH THREE

Now multi liquid vitamin helps with growth but does not contain biotin and other hair growth minerals.
Biotin is taken to compensate for the lack of biotin in the multi vitamin.
MSM is taken to extend my hair growth phase, therefore gaining more length.
Flax seed oil for heart and healthy sebum production.

Once I finish this 3 month rotation, I start over.  This brings my yearly hair growth vitamins costs still under $150. I feel that is a good deal.

I also drink 2 cups of hair tea daily.
The one in the middle is the hair tea.
Hair teas contain minerals essential to hair growth.
It tastes really good.

I order most of my vitamins online. Should I run out of vitamins and have to purchase one from the store. I buy the one source Hair skin and nails vitamin. This might happen once or twice a year.

I rotate my vitamins so I do not get to much vitamin A. To much vitamin A can have an adverse affect on hair growth. Most hair vitamins contain a lot of vitamin A.

A few things a new natural should know

1. It is natural to have more than one curl type or texture on your head.
If you have 2 or 3 curl types on your head that is normal and not unique. It is common for the curl type to be loser above the nape area. It is also common for the curl to be tighter in the crown. It could also be the opposite for you.

2. Shrinkage is natural. How much your hair shrinks is most likely not different from the next natural.
Shrinkage is a sign of healthy hair. Shrinkage is actually your curls filled with water. Shrinkage should not be viewed as a bad thing. It is just what happened to curly hair. Most do not like shrinkage because it takes their length. That is just the nature of curly hair.

3. Two factors to growing longer hair.
UNDER THE SCALP IS HAIR GROWTH
How much your hair sprouts from under the scalp each month. The average rate of hair growth per month is 1/2 inch. You might get more or less than the average. How much your hair grows each month is based partly on genetics, hair regimen and your health.

HAIR ABOVE THE SCALP IS GROWTH RETENTION
How much of that growth you keep on your head. How much growth you keep is called, length retention. You can greatly affect your length retention depending on how you handle your hair. Most people who feel their hair does not grow, are really having a problem with length retention, not the hair growth. Their hair regimen is not conducive to them retaining length.

4. Know your normal hair growth rate
It would benefit you to know how much your hair normally grows each month.  Then your will notice the change, if  your hair begins to grow slower. Simply track your hair growth every 30 days, for 7 months. At the end of those 7 months calculate the average from each monthly rate.

YES YOU CAN INCREASE YOUR NORMAL HAIR GROWTH RATE

5. Get use to finger combing
The fastest way to retain length is to finger comb. When you do not comb or brush your hair you will retain more length and reach your length goals faster. Combs and brushes pop and break curly hair.  The top cause of breakage is raking a comb or brush through your curls.

6. Just like food natural is always better
Buying products with the most natural ingredients is important. What you apply to the hair goes into the scalp. You want the ingredients to be healthy as they lay on your scalp and seep into your hair follicles. It is worth spending a few dollars extra for a better quality product. Than it is to use products with cheap ingredients. Those cheap ingredients work at first, but they lead to dry hair and breakage down the road. Avoid a setback, invest in healthy products.
Stay away from
Aussie Moist
Garnier Frutus
Pantene
Hello Hydration
and most other brands with cheap harsh ingredients.

7. The deal with porosity
You will see a lot said about hair porosity. Someone will recommend the water sink, float test. The popular sink float test for porosity is not accurate.  Do not get  tied up in trying to figure out your porosity. Most have it wrong. You can use any product you like that you are not allergic to. All hair absorbs water, some might take a few seconds  more to absorb it but they still absorb it nonetheless.  Those who claim to be low porosity still have shrinkage. Think about that. It is okay to know your current porosity, but that does not dictate which products you can or cannot use. Porosity is important for your stylist to figure out when giving your any type of chemical service.

CQ Hair Growth & Strengthening Tea

RECIPE
Hibiscus tea (1 tbsp)
Green tea (1 tbsp)
Nettle tea (1 tbsp)
Glycerin (2 tbsp)
12 ounces spring water
Lavender essential oil (1 tsp)

WHO SHOULD USE THIS TEA?
Those wearing braid extensions benefit a great deal from this tea blend. The nettle, hibiscus and green tea add strength to your hair roots. This helps protect your natural hair from the friction of the fake hair swinging back and forth throughout the day. The hibiscus and glycerin feeds the hair moisture, so it does not pop and break. Nettle and lavender are excellent for boosting hair growth.

LESS SHRINKAGE FOR TWIST OUTS
Use this tea to set your twist outs. Apply to freshly washed hair and seal in with a little grease or castor oil. You will get good definition with less shrinkage than using a creamy product.

Use this spray as often as you desire.
Store in the fridge when not in use.
Works well when applied to hair cold.

Knowing your hair growth rate

It is beneficial to know your hair growth rate. The hair growth rate is how much your hair grows each month.  On average, hair grows 1/2 inch per month. Some people grow more, while some grow less.  Not knowing your normal hair growth rate, makes it harder to know when your growth slows or if a growth product or technique is working for you.

CALCULATING YOUR HAIR GROWTH RATE

Measure you hair in 3 different areas, every month, for 7 months. Take the average from those 7 months of growth. That will give you a good ideal as to how much your hair grows each month.

Make note of anything major you do to your hair during this time. Things such as: trims, hair color, extensions, major breakage, health issues, etc.   Depression, menstral cycles, anemia, thyroid issues, pregnancy can also greatly affect your hair growth.

Since you are tracking hair growth it would be best to not trim you hair during the 7 months. Trim your hair before you begin, if you need a trim.

It is unnecessary to heat straighten your hair, for simply checking the length. You can do a length check on your hair in its natural curly state. You can also stretch your hair by two strand twisting it, letting it air dry in a ponytail or air dry in magnetic rollers.
Measure front length

Measure your length on one side.  Make a clear note as to the side you choose. Left side or the right side. Take pictures of your measurements if that works better for you.

Measure the bottom back area. Choose left or right side. Record all your starting measurements. Repeat these measurements every 30 days, for 7 months. Record how much growth you gain in each area.

Do this for 7 months and that will tell you how much your hair grows on average per month. Your HGR which stands for hair growth rate.
